SFA chief seeks to calm ‘misquoted’ claim

SCOTTISH Football Association chief executive, Gordon Smith, appears to be backing down in his claim that he had been misquoted regarding referees.

As Smith flew out to Geneva yesterday, he said: “I wasn’t misquoted – it was more of a misunderstanding. I was trying to be light-hearted.”

The new row between the former BBC Scotland soccer pundit and the media had blown up on Tuesday following comments to journalists on Monday.
