Fry tipped to take over at Scotsman publishers

YESTERDAY, it was being widely speculated that a successor to Tim Bowdler had been appointed as chief executive of The Scotsman’s publishers.

Not that Johnston Press has issued an announcement to confirm or otherwise that the chief executive of Norwich-based Archant Newspapers, John Fry, had been chosen from a shortlist of five, selected from 44 applications.

Bowdler steps down in May next year.

Said MediaGuardian: “Unlike Johnston Press, Archant is a privately-owned company, with around 60 newspaper titles and a host of regional magazines. However, its policy of combined online and specifically targeted weekly papers is seen by many as a model for the industry.”
