Over the next few weeks, allmediascotland.com is to publish, each weekday, edited extracts from the memoirs of Scottish war correspondent, Paul Harris. ‘More thrills than skills: A half-life in journalism’, is being scheduled for publication next year.

I NEVER worked again for BBC TV. I never attempted the complexities of the social circuit and networking which you have to master to make it in TV.

Similarly, I was never much good either at networking in journalistic circles.

The problem was that, most of the time, I was on the sharp end of the frontline, so to speak, rather than brandishing a cocktail glass.

Anyway, I was having more fun, if not exactly making a fortune.
