Sports editor fronts pro plans for football team

AN oldie, but still a goody: The Scottish Sun’s sports editor, Iain King, is spearheading a campaign to have professional football played at East Kilbride.

Reports the October 15 edition of the local newspaper, the East Kilbride News, King – who won this year’s ‘Sports news writer of the year’ title at the Scottish Press Awards in April – is part of a consortium aiming to turn East Kilbride Thistle into a professional team.

King is quoted, saying: “East Kilbride is really a city now, it’s a footballing hotbed and we should have a professional team here. If somewhere like Annan Athletic can have a professional team, why can’t East Kilbride?”
