Public meeting to debate Herald re-organisation

A PUBLIC meeting on the staff reorganisation taking place at the Herald group of newspapers is being held in Glasgow on Thursday.

Being organised by the National Union of Journalists, the event is being held as a protest against what its describes as “serious damage to The Herald, Sunday Herald and Evening Times”, following a decision to make all but a handful of staff re-apply for 40 fewer jobs as part of a new, seven-day production system.

Continues the union: “The NUJ is campaigning to protect jobs and quality journalism and campaigning for stronger employment protection laws, more statutory accountability for media bosses and better protection for the Scottish media through a Press Commission.”

The event is taking place at the Scottish Trade Union Congress headquarters in Glasgow on Thursday, from 7pm. Speakers include union reps from the Herald, MSPs Sandra White (SNP) and Pauline McNeill (Labour), plus NUJ president, James Doherty.

The STUC HQ is based in Woodlands Road.
