Record/Sunday Mail announces first of senior management reshuffle

PROPOSED merging of the production of the Daily Record and Sunday Mail has led to Jim Traynor being appointed executive sports editor of both titles, with the Record’s deputy sports editor, Austin Barrett, being made sports editor and Sunday Mail sports editor, George Cheyne, his deputy.

Traynor will continue to write exclusively for the Record.

Of Barrett and Cheyne’s appointment, newly-appointed editor-in-chief of both titles, Bruce Waddell, says: “These very much expanded roles will confirm Austin and George’s major responsibility for content and production across our titles.”

Meanwhile, Alan Rowan will be leaving as the Daily Record’s sports editor (production) at the end of
April, after 18 years with the newspaper.

The moves follow Bob Caldwell’s appointment, on Tuesday, as deputy editor of the Daily Record, with Jim Wilson taking up the same position at the Sunday Mail – both working under Waddell.
