Scots snapper coasts it

A SCOTTISH photographer has won the top prize in a competition hosted by an UK magazine celebrating living by the sea, including homes, travel and food.

A picture of two dogs playing on the beach on Tiree won Nigel Robinson the top prize in Coast magazine’s inaugural national photography competition.

Robinson’s winning shot was selected from hundreds of entries, whittled down to four – each of the shortlisted photographs representing one of the seasons, his being ‘summer’.

From Elgin, Robinson wins an aerial photography trip with top photographer, David Spurdens, along the British coastline, flying from Brighton.

His photograph appears in the current April/May issue of Coast magazine, which sells over 42,000 copies in the UK.

The judges said of his entry: “Nigel’s image encapsulates the fresh, free spirit of a British summer’s day by the sea. The judges enjoyed the interplay between the dogs, the weaving of their shadows and the shape created by their bodies.

“The composition, with its high, level horizon and perfect positioning of the dogs is also praised.”

The ‘winter’ and ‘autumn’ categories winners were also of the Scottish coast: the Isle of Pebay, off the north-east coast of Skye, and the Scurdiness lighthouse at Montrose.
