More success for Adams at Amnesty media awards

THE winner of a Scottish media prize highlighting human rights issues has triumphed again: at the UK version of the same competition.

Last week, and for the second time in three finals, Herald journalist, Lucy Adams, took the Scottish title at this year’s Amnesty International Media Awards.

‘The fight for justice’ looked at the use of rape as a weapon of war in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The article was published in September and, at the UK awards ceremony, she won the ‘Nations and regions’ prize.

At that ceremony – held on Tuesday evening – she was joined on the winners’ podium by fellow Scot, Dan McDougall, a former Scotsman journalist, who was singled out for his work in The Observer Magazine highlighting the plight of Southern Italy’s marginalised Roma Community.

McDougall, who moves to Cape Town in the next few weeks to become The Sunday Times Africa Correspondent, is the current ‘British foreign correspondent of the year’.
