Dr Who and Noel Edmonds Among Winners at TV Awards

It’s what Dr Who is about: going back in time. And for the Time Lord, it was a case of repeating the success of last year’s awards at the National Television Awards.
Last night, the BBC programme won the Most Popular Drama, Most Popular Actress and Most Popular Actor awards, at the event, which is judged by TV viewers themselves. Exactly the same trio of awards was won by the drama twelve months ago.
The evening was also a triumph for ‘comeback kid’, Noel Edmonds, who actually had never won a National Television Award prior to last night, when his Deal or No Deal, on Channel 4, picked up Best Daytime Show. He had to beat off the challenge of The New Paul O’Grady Show, This Morning and TV soap, Neighbours, to take the honours.
Only a year ago, he was described as “a man who is increasingly succumbing to bitterness and melancholy” – his ubiquity on TV – for instance, Noel’s House Party – having come to a sudden end.
Also among the winners were Top Gear, whose presenter Richard Hammond is recovering from an accident while filming, which won the Factual Award.
Channel 4’s Big Brother won the Reality title for the third year running, beating Celebrity Big Brother, The Apprentice and I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!
