Newsnight Scotland repeats report

TECHNOLOGY hiccups that – pretty much inevitably – are affecting BBC Scotland’s move to new headquarters in Glasgow, and which were reported on yesterday’s Spike, were amply illustrated late last night.

On last night’s Newsnight Scotland, an item on the Arctic bore an uncany resemblance to an item shown the previous evening.

And why? Because part-way into Tuesday night’s report, the line went dead between the Beeb’s former HQ, Queen Margaret Drive, and the transmission centre at its new HQ, at Pacific Quay, on the banks of the river Clyde.

So, the piece was repeated, but this time in full.

It is understood this is the first time there’s been any breakdown at Newsnight Scotland since it started transmitting from Pacific Quay in March – despite the technological challenge of the studio still being based at QMD.
