BBC Scotland to invite public to pick lottery winners

BBC Scotland is to give the public the chance to decide which worthy causes should receive Lottery funding.

Some three million pounds is up for grabs, to be shared equally among six lucky winners, one per region of the country.

The worthy causes all involve people over the age of 50, and have an emphasis on health and activity. The regions are Ayrshire and South, Central and Fife, Edinburgh and Lothian, Glasgow and West, Highlands and Islands and North East.

A shortlist of 18 has been drawn up – three from each region – and the show – called Primetime, and to be broadcast over six episodes – is to be presented by Dougie Vipond. There were 149 entries.

Primetime is being transmitted in late summer.
