Scottish football broadcasters, Setanta, have struck a deal that will continue to see them use equipment, facilities and staff at the owners of stv – in order to produce their regular, live broadcasts of Scottish Premier League matches.
The deal struck with SMG means a continuation of a relationship that is now four years old. The extension is for next season, 2008-09, and the following one, 2009-2010.
Setanta occupies about a third of SMG’s new, Pacific Quay headquarters. But the deal does not mean SMG overturning its recent decision to no longer broadcast its Scotsport SPL highlights show.
Setanta also produce out of Pacific Quay dedicated TV channels for Celtic and Rangers.
The deal had not been factored into SMG’s budgeting, so means a welcome boost.
Said SMG chief executive, Rob Woodward “This is a continuation of an exciting strategic partnership for us and represents an upside to our 2008 Ventures [department] budget. We have had a successful four-year relationship with Setanta and look forward to providing top quality broadcast services in the future.”
