BY the time you read this, I will – if all goes according to plan – be taking the sun in south west Spain – Extremadura, to be precise, the land of Cortez and the Conquistadores, though they’re not quite as war-like these days.

Before I go, I wanted to say a final word about the future of ‘public service broadcasting’, in the light of two recent additions to the debate.

First, broadcasting regulators, Ofcom, has published its fifth report on the UK Communications Market – a comprehensive two-volume study.
