Alli steps down from stv group board

THE pressure of other work commitments has been cited as the reason for the stepping down of a board member at stv group plc, owners of TV channel, stv.

Waheed Alli – one of the founders of The Big Breakfast and a Labour peer – has resigned with immediate effect.

In a statement released to the Stock Exchange by the stv board, he is quoted saying: “It is with regret that I have tendered my resignation as a non-executive director of stv group plc, due to the pressure of my other business commitments. I am proud to have played a part in renewing the fortunes of stv and I believe that it has a very exciting future.”

Ranked 65th in this year’s MediaGuardian Top 100, he is executive chair of media rights company, Chorion, which, among other things, holds the rights to Enid Blyton’s Noddy, the Mr Men and the works of Agatha Christie.

Says MediaGuardian, he also has a stake in TV production company, Shine, a directorship with Paul O’Grady’s production company, Olga Television, and is chair of online retailer, Asos.

Said stv group chair, Richard Findlay: “On behalf of the board I would like to thank Waheed for his wise counsel to the company since his appointment. He has been a valued member of the board and we wish him every success for the future.”
