Belated Recognition for BBC Alba Tale

Programme bosses at BBC Alba probably don’t know whether to laugh or cry following Saturday’s ‘revelations’ in The Times – and subsequent picking up by the BBC – about secret Whitehall plans to redraw the North Sea map, to deprive a possible independent Scotland of oil reserves. For the new, Gaelic language TV channel had told the exact same story, using the same previously unpublished documents from the National Archives, in a documentary transmitted – twice – six weeks previously.

In fact, the BBC Scotland’s website gave the tale top billing on Saturday. And the story also made it to the pages of the Sunday Herald.
