Walker looking forward to freelancing future

ONE of the first women to present sport on Scottish television is to go freelance, to concentrate on producing sports documentaries and also to develop sports-based websites.

Alison Walker is leaving BBC Scotland, where she has worked for the last 20 years, during which time she has covered two Olympic Games.

More specific career highlights include reporting Celtic’s UEFA Cup final six years ago, in Seville, Spain, plus interviewing Steve Redgrave immediately after he won his fifth Olympic gold medal – in Sydney nine years ago – and doing likewise with Chris Hoy after his fourth, in Beijing, last year.

A personal highlight would have been watching Hamilton Accies win promotion last season to the Scottish Premier League.

She said: “I am keen to maintain a relationship with the BBC and hopefully still do some presenting for them in the future – whether radio or television. I am excited about what lies ahead. I really fancy working on sports documentaries, doing some corporate work, speaking and working in the fast-growing area of sports websites.”
