Day one of Caledonian Mercury attracts almost 30,000 unique visitors

DAY one of a new online newspaper for Scotland has attracted – as of 5pm – almost 30,000 unique visitors.

Caledonian Mercury was launched earlier today, to a fanfare of media coverage, including The Guardian online and BBC Radio Scotland’s Good Morning Scotland news flagship.

An interview with co-founder Stewart Kirkpatrick – a former editor of scotsman.com – is scheduled for this evening on Newsnight Scotland on BBC Two.

Other coverage includes the BBC’s website, The Drum media and marketing magazine, the Press Gazette and Editorsweblog, as well as allmediascotland.

It has also already attracted 450 followers on Twitter.
