Online Media Awards issues call for entries

A MEDIA awards competition that recognises the best of online media has issued a call for entries.

Say the organisers of the Online Media Awards, the aim of the awards is “to find the best application of talent and technology online”.

Adds awards director, Lynn Lester: “In our ever-changing media landscape, media owners have had to adapt very quickly to the ways in which they disseminate editorial content to their audiences. The constant hard work that goes on behind the scenes are often taken for granted and that is why these awards are important – to give teams and individuals the credit they so richly deserve. Our judges are looking to award those sites that are the most thought provoking, engaging and well written from across the world. You don’t need to be big to win; you just have to be the best.”

Last year’s winners included some of the world’s leading websites: The Guardian, Huffington Post, The Sun, Mashable.com, BBC, Sunday Times, Mail Online, Reuters and the Telegraph.

This year, the awards are being supported by the National Union of Journalists and the UK-wide press agency, the Press Association.

The award categories include: Best Site for News-led Journalism, Best Specialist Site for Journalism, Best Use of Social Media, Online Editor of the Year, Digital Writer of the Year and, new this year, Best Local/Regional News Site.

The deadline for entries is the 23rd of next month. Visit www.onlinemediaawards.net for more details.
