Whisky iPad app believed to be a world first

WHISKY connoisseurs are being offered the chance to indulge their passion on their iPad, thanks to a new interactive app, believed to be a world first

The app, designed by Paisley and Edinburgh-based Connect Communications, is for the in-house magazine of the Scotch Malt Whisky Society, Unfiltered.

Says a media statement: “As well as offering some previously unseen content for the Society’s 26,000-strong membership, Unfiltered on the iPad also opens the magazine up to non-members, with videos, interviews and features, 360-degree photography, interactive maps and hidden extras for the curious of spirit.”

The statement quotes Richard Croasdale of Connect Communications, as saying: “We knew from the outset that we wanted to avoid a flat reproduction of the print magazine – our readers expect us to be more imaginative. So we’ve fundamentally rethought what Unfiltered can be and how readers can interact with it. It’s been an exciting journey and we’re confident that Unfiltered has once again set the benchmark for its peers.”

The world first element is because of its appearance on Apple’s Newsstand platform. It can be purchased via here.

Involved in the design and production at Connect were head of design, Renny Hutchison, Richard Croasdale, editorial executive, and Jim Byers, who was a senior editorial executive until his departure from Connect in May.
