Social media campaign aiming to highlight the work of Scots local authorities

A SOCIAL media campaign to highlight the work of Scotland’s local authorities is taking place today.

Twitter24 is being organised by the National Communications Group in Scotland, which seeks to provide, it says, a “collective voice for the communications industry in local government to promote best practice in local government communications”.

But among the councils taking part in the 24-hour event, Midlothian has decided to run its campaign for 48 hours.

In a Midlothian Council media release, Cllr Owen Thompson, Cabinet member for communications and marketing, is quoted, as saying: “For us, we know from our evaluation work that many of our residents use Facebook and so we’ll be trying some new things this year on Facebook, using more video, to engage our public. We’ll obviously continue to use Twitter at the same time and indeed I hope lots of our customers will join in by tweeting with the #mycouncil hashtag when they speak to council staff or use one of our services during the 24-hour period.”

The council says it has 3,616 likes for its Facebook presence and 2,324 followers on Twitter.
