THE communications function at the new Police Scotland is changing and several media vacancies are being advertised on allmediascotland.com, reflecting this.
Says Police Scotland: “Police Scotland is recruiting for a number of communications posts as it restructures its communications function into a single department following the merger of nine policing organisations into one last year.
“Following a number of staff departures and changes, vacancies will cover a range of posts across media, internal communications, marketing and digital. Police Scotland came into effect on April 1 last year following the merger of eight police forces and the SCDEA.”
Says interim director of corporate communications, Lucy Adamson: “The change to a single policing service last year has been the biggest change to Scottish policing and it is vital we provide an effective and efficient communications function that supports the organisation’s policing priorities. By creating a single department with a footprint right across the country, we want to build on the important links with the media but we also want to further develop the opportunities digital media offers through direct engagement with the public.”
The new department will be split into three divisions: Media, Internal Communications and Marketing and Digital. Local policing communications teams will continue to be based in Inverness, Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Dumfries, with a corporate media team based in Stirling.
Lucy added: “For communications professionals, this is an exciting time to be joining policing in Scotland. With major events putting Scotland on the world stage later this year – and a fast-moving, vital public service to deliver – these are great opportunities to join Police Scotland Communications across a range of disciplines including media and communications and digital.”
The changes are expected to take place over the next few months.
