Media Job: External communications manager, Skills Development Scotland

About the role

SDS have an exciting new opportunity for an external communications manager.

The purpose of the post is to develop and manage our public relations, media and stakeholder communications. This is an opportunity to help define the strategic communications framework and promote a positive image of SDS though our communications with partners, stakeholders and employees.

The post sits within our corporate affairs team which has responsibility for protecting and promoting SDS’ reputation with Scottish Government, Scottish Parliament and other agencies and partners. The external communications team are responsible for responding to all media enquiries and the role of manager includes effectively leading and developing four members of staff.

This is a full time permanent role, which will be based in Glasgow.

About you

The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, with drive, initiative and creativity to bring a fresh perspective to the team.

A background in media and or PR is essential, ideally with experience of developing content for both online and print publications; therefore, the highest standard of written communication skills is expected.

This is a busy team: you will have the ability to manage multiple projects in a demanding and changing environment, often at short notice, in a calm and positive manner.

Previous management or supervisory experience is necessary to manage and motivate staff to achieve their potential and deliver objectives and drive a culture of continuous improvement.
