Media Job: Deputy editor, The Oban Times

THE Oban Times is looking for someone with proven editorial and managerial skills to join the West Highland’s largest-selling weekly newspaper.

As well as excellent news sense, the successful candidate must be an experienced sub-editor with a flair for design, headline writing and page layout, and be fully-qualified (or have relevant time-served experience), with a sound knowledge of Scots law and the IPSO Code of Practice.

The ability to deputise for the editor and organise the newsroom is essential, as is the ability to work well under deadline pressure.

Candidates will have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. They will be responsible for managing daily workflow, working with reporters to get the best content possible, providing clear briefings and feedback on content requirements.

They must be self-motivated, highly-organised and able to take instruction as well as manage own workload efficiently.

An understanding of digital would be an advantage as the right candidate will be required to liaise with the editor on the digital strategy and ensure that content is promoted via an effective social media presence.

Above all, the new member of the team will be hard working, passionate about the role and have a positive attitude.

A full driving licence is essential. The position is based in Oban.
