Salary: £33,037 to £41,777

Working pattern: This is a full-time post. Our normal working week is 37 hours but we currently operate a wide variety of work patterns successfully balancing lifestyle choices with business requirements. All requests for part time or flexible working hours will be seriously considered.

About the post

Working in one of the most influential places in Scotland, the Scottish Parliament is offering a great opportunity as a media relations officer within its Media Relations Office (MRO) based at Holyrood.

The MRO is responsible for promoting the wide-ranging work of the Scottish Parliament to print, broadcast, specialist and online media.

Working within the MRO you would be responsible for providing media and communications advice to our committee conveners and staff. In addition, you will provide a frontline media enquiry service across the Parliament and act as an official Parliament spokesperson.

Working collaboratively with a range of teams within the Media Office you will develop, devise and deliver communication and marketing strategies for campaigns and enhance our communication activities.

Candidate requirements

You will need to have demonstrable media relations expertise including experience of devising, implementing and evaluation media/public relation communication strategies.

You will also have a good understanding of how media and public communication works and the ability to use this knowledge to promote the business of the Parliament. An excellent communicator, you will have advanced writing abilities including demonstratable ability to produce impactful news releases.

With strong negotiation and influencing skills you will have the ability to work collaboratively with a range of different people with varying demands and requirements. In addition, you will have excellent organisation and time management skills, the ability to make decisions quickly and a good level of political and parliamentary knowledge.

Marketing skills are desirable including developing the ability to measure and evaluate the effectiveness of an integrated marketing communications plan.
