Press officer – DC Thomson

DC Thomson is looking for a pro-active, enthusiastic and experienced Press Officer to join our busy Communications department.

You will play a leading role in the PR activity of DC Thomson. In this new position, you will be expected to contribute to the wider Communications Strategy, helping to shape and communicate a broad range of messages that span an exciting array of newspaper, magazine, and corporate activities.

The post is based in Dundee.

Reporting to the Senior Communications Business Partner, your key responsibilities will be:

* Writing Press releases, preparing spokespeople and briefings, managing interviews, responding to media enquiries and requests and providing out of hours press cover as required;

* Playing an important role in creating, planning and executing integrated PR activities for DC Thomson and acting as a central point of liaison for media relations;

* Working with colleagues across the business to build close working relationships and ensuring media opportunities are appropriately planned, managed and fully exploited in line with our corporate goals, as well as tracking coverage and evaluating the success of DC Thomson media campaigns;

* Taking responsibility for developing and maintaining effective media office systems including updating media contacts database and contacts systems, press cuttings archives, and media monitoring – including social media; and

Contributing to crisis management as appropriate, protecting the image of DC Thomson and raising the profile of the organisation in consultation with senior staff.

To be successful in this role, it is expected that you will be educated to degree level or equivalent and have experience working in communications, with the media or as a journalist/writer.

You should be a creative thinker with knowledge of current communication methods and the ability to take complex information and create clear copy which is relevant to the audience. In addition, you will also be IT literate and possess excellent proofreading, communication and interpersonal skills.
