Senior VOD engineer – STV

MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

THE senior VOD engineer is responsible for leadership, development and day-to-day operational management of the STV Workshop team and for the technical support and development of VoD operations throughout the business.

KEY RESULT AREAS

Manage the STV Workshop team, bringing improvements and innovation, through leadership, to all aspects of the Workshop services.

Liaise with the wider business to assess workshop requirements and ensure that a high level of service is maintained at all times.

Fully understand the VoD workflows and day to day operations relating to Video on Demand requirements throughout STV.

Take lead responsibility for the maintenance of software and system upgrades and for stability and improvement work relating to VoD services.

Proactively engage with the STV Catch-up team on a daily basis, to ensure smooth operations and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.

Conduct in-depth root cause analysis and fault finding initiatives for on-going and major issues.

Work collaboratively across STV technology departments such as the Digital Development and Broadcast Engineering to assist in the design, implementation and support of new or updated VoD strategies and related systems.

Assist in any other aspects of the work of the company as reasonably required.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Demonstrable depth of related experience including team leadership, change management, performance management and development skills across staff, resources and systems.

Wide technical knowledge and experience across all areas, including:

* Windows/server knowledge

* Networking TCP/IP knowledge

* Software configuration and Fault finding knowledge (third level support)

* Storage/Raid/NAS knowledge

* Content delivery (Playstation Xbox, Youview etc)

* Metadata/XML creation

* OVP’s and CDN’s

* Content transcoding workflows and software

Experience in the following areas would be an advantage:

* Digital Video/audio Codec knowledge (SD, HD, Mpeg2, Mpeg4 etc)

* Broadcasting/Transmission/MCR knowledge

* Post production (edit suites/sound dub suites)

* Studio systems (Avid, Grass Valley, Ross, Pixel Power, newsroom systems)

Clear understanding of resource scheduling and planning, including operational practice at a management level.

Strong communication, interpersonal and team working skills to liaise effectively with colleagues, internal and external clients at all levels.

Driven approach and use of own initiative, highly motivated to deliver against deadlines and overcome challenges.
