Media Job: Journalist, Am Pàipear

CLOSING DATE: April 8, 2015

BENBECULA-based newspaper Am Pàipear is looking for a talented journalist to join the team and help deliver a consistently high-quality paper and online service.

This is a rare opportunity to join a multi award-winning publication, deeply rooted within the community it serves.

Reporting to and liaising with the Editor, the main function of this role is to provide stories and photographs for both the newspaper and website.

Flexible working will be required in order to cover a range of events in the evenings and weekends.

In addition to performing the role of a journalist, the successful candidate would be required to assist with administrative duties associated with the production of the newspaper and management of the overall business.

Am Pàipear is looking for someone who is hard working, creative, interested in the news and politics of the Outer Hebrides, and has excellent attention to detail.

Although the position advertised perhaps lends itself to an individual qualified and experienced in the field, Am Pàipear will consider applications from people looking to enter journalism for the first time.

In such a case, it is expected that the candidate will demonstrate what he or she could bring to the newspaper, and how his or her past experience or education can be applied to the role.

HOURS: 35 hours per week worked flexibly

SALARY: £16-18,000 dependent on experience

CLOSING DATE: 5pm on Wednesday 8th April 2015

INTERVIEWS: Wednesday 15th April 2015

Application documents can be found at www.ampaipear.org.uk (click on VACANCY).

Candidates – when completing an application form – should use the personal statement to outline any areas of previous experience and explain what they would bring to Am Pàipear as the role is outlined in the job description.

Examples of previous work – published articles and photography – may be submitted in support of an application.

This post is based on the Isle of Benbecula in the Outer Hebrides.

This post could be considered as a job share position.
