HIGHLAND Theological College UHI is opening a new base in Glasgow from September to fulfil a growing demand from existing and potential students for its BA (Hons) theological studies degree.

The Dingwall-based partner in the University of the Highlands and Islands has negotiated a collaboration with the United Free Church to use its Newton Place premises in Glasgow’s west end.

“It has been a great privilege for Highland Theological College UHI to train three of the United Free Church’s young candidates for ministry in the past number of years and I am delighted we can partner with the church to make provision for evangelical theological education in Glasgow,” explained college principal, Reverend Hector Morrison.

The BA (Hons) theological studies degree is recognised by the Associated Presbyterian Churches, the Church of Scotland, the United Free Church of Scotland and other denominations as a training provider and is aimed at those looking to pursue a career in Christian ministry.

Highland Theological College UHI already has a number of open learning students who study from home in Glasgow and the west of Scotland.

This new collaboration will provide an opportunity for those who want to study on campus with a peer group for support and interaction.

“This new provision at Newton Place is offered to Central Belt-based students as an enhancement to the excellent distance-learning service already offered,” explained Reverend Morrison.

“This is a fantastic development for Highland Theological College UHI and we are grateful to the United Free Church of Scotland for partnering with us to make this project possible and for their tremendous encouragement and excitement at being part of this work.”
