Is your life dominated by technology? Studies suggest that, on average, adults in the UK now spend over eight hours each day on media devices and over 80 per cent want to stay connected on holiday. If you’re looking to swap emails and emoji’s for outdoor activities, breathtaking views and wildlife spotting then hostelling is a great way to ‘get away from IT all’.

BETWEEN 4 and 6 September 2015, SYHA Hostelling Scotland are inviting technology addicts to ‘get away from IT all’ with a weekend of ‘tech detoxing’ at youth hostels situated in some of the most stunning locations around Scotland.

Visitors will be cut off from their phones and other tech-devices giving them the perfect opportunity to re-connect with family, friends and the most breathtaking countryside and wildlife that Scotland has to offer.

Once free of the chains of technology visitors will get the chance to experience life away from an LCD screen for the duration of their stay – bag a Munro or join a guided walk, paddle a sea kayak, sign up for some wildlife watching, explore the stunning beaches of the North West Highlands, go cross-country on a mountain bike or take on an island SYHAdventure!

With an SYHA Tech Detox weekend break a huge variety of activities are on offer; highlighting the best of Scotland’s great outdoors.

Keith Legge, CEO, SYHA Hostelling Scotland, said: “We all need to break free from technology once in a while – we’ve just forgotten how to do it! With our Tech Detox weekend in September we want people, especially young people, to get outside and see what Scotland has to offer.

“It is a fantastic opportunity to experience and appreciate our countryside, environment, natural heritage and places of historic and cultural interest.

“By the end, we hope that our visitors will fully appreciate all of the benefits of switching off once in a while and seeing what they’ve been missing out on when chained to their tech.”

When visitors arrive at an SYHA Tech Detox youth hostel all technological devices will be confiscated – mobile phones, tablets, laptops etc – and there will be no access to televisions or internet kiosks.

Youth hostel staff will be on hand to advise on local outdoor pursuits, recommend the best activity providers, suggest exciting tourist attractions to visit and the best places to eat and drink so visitors can fully engage with the local area.

SYHA Hostelling Scotland are offering ten per cent off accommodation at selected youth hostels when booking a Tech Detox Weekend up to 31 July and stay 4 – 6 September.

Visitors can use promotion code SYHATD9 when booking.
