THE Scotch Pie Club has announced the dates for the 17th World Scotch Pie Championship and the timing could not be better.
With a nip in the air, customers will be looking for warming flavour-filled treats and traditional savoury snacks and the ever-popular Scotch Pie more than fits the bill.
In addition to Scotch pies, bakers and butchers are invited to enter their best sausage rolls, bridies, speciality savouries and Scottish football pies as well as something sweet in the form Apple Pies.
Entry forms are due in by 23rd October and products should be delivered to Carnegie Conference Centre, Halbeath Road, Dunfermline, KY11 8DY between 9.00am and 11.30am on 11th November 2015.
Butchers and bakers across Scotland will have the opportunity to become recognised as producing the highest-quality savoury products around the globe with awards given to those producing the best products in each category.
The winner of the Scotch Pie category will be declared as the WORLD CHAMPION.
The competition, which has run for 17 years, aims to highlight that bakers and butchers create high quality artisan pastry products.
Recognising the ‘great and the good’ in this way rewards excellence and raises the bar in the industry.
Alan Clarke, of Scottish Bakers, said: “We are delighted to be launching the 17th World Scotch Pie Championships. We have a huge number of hard working butchers and bakers who deserve recognition for delivering great products day in and day out.”
Continued Douglas Scott, chief executive, Scottish Federation of Meat Traders Association: “The title of World Scotch Pie Champion is highly sought-after and this year I am looking forward to sampling for myself some of the best products on the market today and to seeing who the judges pick out as having produced something that I know will be world class.”
The competition is supported by Scottish Bakers and the Scottish Federation of Meat Traders.
Both trade associations actively support and promote bakers and butchers in Scotland by encouraging and sharing best practise.
Scottish Bakers was established in 1891 and since then we have represented and promoted the interests of the bakery trade in Scotland.
We aim to be an integral part of each member’s business by providing support for bakers of all sizes.
We provide a valuable source of help, advice, information, assistance and skills development for bakers throughout Scotland.
But, most importantly, Scottish Bakers belongs to its members, we are all there for their benefit and are proud of our motto, ‘for the good of all’.
The Scottish Federation of Meat Traders is the trade organisation representing Scotland’s craft butchers. The 440 member shops are supported from its Perth base with help and advice. Members are encouraged to produce innovative and unique products that create compelling reasons to shop at specialist meat retailers.
