Media Release: DBS enhances reputation for outstanding quality with NORSOK certification

DBS-NORSOK

STAFF from a leading North-east surface preparation and protective coatings company have successfully achieved a prestigious industry certification in recognition of their high standards for blast cleaning and application of protective coatings.

Davidsons Blast Services (DBS), headquartered in Peterhead, successfully achieved the globally recognised NORSOK M501 certification after demonstrating their competence in surface preparation and application of coating materials, in accordance with NORSOK M501 specification.

NORSOK standards are developed by the Norwegian petroleum industry to ensure adequate safety and cost effectiveness for industry developments and operations.

Family firm, DBS, which provides blast cleaning and application of protective coatings to the oil and gas, decommissioning and subsea industries, secured the certification by undertaking a two-day assessment at their premises in Peterhead.

The course was undertaken by DBS’s expert blasting and coating team, which saw them carrying out blast cleaning and painting techniques in accordance to the strict standards of the NORSOK specification.

The assessment involved achieving the correct surface profile during the blasting process and applying the approved paint to a specified dry film thickness range (DFT).

This was evaluated by an independent assessor who completed the process with an adhesion test.

This was to ensure that the specified DFT’s had been achieved, therefore ensuring coating integrity.

Family firm, DBS, uses the highest quality products on the market, together with an expert team of blasting and coating experts to achieve a first class service.

To help sustain the life of customers’ assets and complete the protection process, DBS apply a wide range of protective coatings includingepoxy, acrylic, polyurethane, antifouling, glass flake and thermal spray (TSA), and the quality of each finished product is verified by the company’s NACE-qualified inspector.

Nicola Harris, commercial director for DBS, said: “At DBS we strive to build upon our excellent reputation for quality and we are extremely proud of ourteam’s success.

“Their successful achievement of the NORSOK M501 certification in addition to the company’s ISO 9001 and 14001 certifications further demonstrates our commitment to offer clients a first class service.

“The NORSOK M501 standard was developed for challenging offshore environments and is a major standard for the assessment of product reliability for both onshore and offshore application.

“Achieving the certification demonstrates to our clients that our trusted and expert team of blasting and coating technicians together with a range of high quality products protects a wide range of assets in the most demanding markets and environments.”
