Media Release: New, 1920s casino takes full house for launch

THE award-winning Corinthian Club has played its cards right by launching a brand new, state-of-the-art casino experience.

Harking back to jazz era Harlem, The Cotton Club opened its doors to the public for the first time on Friday (20th November), offering a 1920s-style boutique casino and cocktail lounge and bringing an exciting new addition to Glasgow’s late-night scene.

The atmospheric Cotton Club, representing a significant investment by the venue, is set to change the Glasgow casino experience – boasting vintage-style gaming, drinking and dining in a two-tier, subterranean speakeasy setting.

Scott Kinkaid, operations manager of The Cotton Club, spoke of his delight at being able to bring something new and refreshing to Glasgow.

Scott said: “We are delighted to have launched The Cotton Club and to be bringing Glasgow something entirely different to the city’s current casino offering.

“In fact, The Cotton Club offers a brand new casino concept to rival anything in the UK, outside of London.

“The Cotton Club is a high-quality venue, open to both those who want to enjoy Glasgow’s finest gaming offering, and those who are just looking to have a bit of a chat over some classic cocktails and snacks.

“The 1920s speakeasy vibe is felt throughout the casino and is a key part of the overall experience – in everything from the dusky atmosphere and music to the staff’s vintage, bespoke uniforms.

“We are excited to be bringing something distinct and entertaining to the table but, overall, we want to provide a friendly and safe environment for late-night Glasgow revellers.

“We were overwhelmed by the turn out over the weekend and glad so many came along to witness

the unique experience of The Cotton Club. We think the casino is set to become a very popular venue for Glasgow.”

Acclaimed designer, Jim Hamilton – whose previous projects include Blytheswood Square in Glasgow, Forgan’s in St Andrews and the recent revamp of Tigerlily in Edinburgh – has created a highly-atmospheric, underground venue that hints at the jazz era of the original Cotton Club.

The Cotton Club is located in the basement of The Corinthian Club, occupying the site of the former Mash & Press cellar bar area – and is aimed at revitalising the showcase Glasgow institution on Ingram Street to new and existing audiences.

Those with Lady Luck on their side are welcome to try their hand on any one of the American Roulette, Blackjack, Three Card Poker and Punto Banco live tables, with welcoming ‘learn to play’ facilities available for beginners willing to put their cards on the table.

Electronic gaming can also be accessed on the ground floor, whereas luxurious chill-out areas are open to guests who have yet to perfect their poker face.

The Cotton Club officially opened its doors on Friday 20th November 2015.
