A MAJOR extension to Skene Business Centres in the heart of Aberdeen’s West End is aiming to drive growth in the start-up sector.

Already an experienced provider of serviced offices, virtual offices and meeting rooms at three west end and city centre locations, Skene Business Centres has just opened 8 Queen’s Gardens.

Speaking of the new venture, Richard Skene, development director at the Skene Group explains: “We keep a close eye on changing work patterns and the evolving needs of clients.

“To help meet this new demand, we have we have invested £1.5million in the renovation of 8 Queen’s Gardens, which represents a 50 per cent increase in floor space (by 3,100 sq ft) at the existing Queens Garden’s Business Centre and reflects the increased requirements for flexible workspaces with sophisticated communications technology.

“8 Queen’s Gardens provides an ideal location for an instant office solution, where you can move in, get online and have calls answered in your company name within 24 hours.”

The group’s founder and chair, Charles Skene, originally acquired 8 Queen’s Gardens as a family residence in the 1960’s and believes its renovation offers North East businesses unrivalled, premium facilities to work in, network, and showcase their products and services.

Mr. Skene explains the added move to incentivise start-ups: “As a Professor of Entrepreneurship at the Robert Gordon University, creating new opportunities for business innovation is close to my heart.

“8 Queen’s Gardens offers flexible office solutions with no capital investment and minimal start-up costs. In fact, we are offering start-ups a sliding rental structure, whereby they pay no rent at the beginning, then pay phased rental increases over time.

“Given the current business climate and looking to the future of Aberdeen, we need to offer the business community suitable space and both financial and technological support to help them grow and sustain the long term development of Aberdeen.”
