Media Release: Keenan Recycling makes key management appointment in Central Belt

Keenan-Andrew Gerlach[1]

A LEADING Scottish organics recycling company has made a key management appointment to support the firm’s growing customer base in Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Keenan Recycling, which is headquartered in New Deer, and transforms in excess of 60,000 tonnes of food and garden waste into compost for farming and horticultural use, has appointed Andrew Gerlach as regional business development manager based at the company’s Linlithgow office.

Mr Gerlach’s appointment comes as the specialist firm works to help companies meet targets set out in The Waste (Scotland) Regulations.

Says a spokesperson: “The rules, which came into force in January 2016, dictate that any business producing more than just 5kgs of food waste per week must comply and have it recycled, and Mr Gerlach, who has 19 years sales and marketing experience, will educate customers about the importance of following the new guidelines.”

Mr Gerlach’s role will also include overseeing the work of a team of account managers spread across Edinburgh and Glasgow, who will look after and maintain the needs of Keenan Recycling’s growing customer base in the south of Scotland.

Mr Gerlach said: “Before joining Keenan Recycling I worked as a sales manager for 19 years, and I will use my broad knowledge and experience of the sector in my role to maximise our customer care and to ensure we continue to deliver a first-class service.

“An instrumental part of my role will also be to educate customers about the importance of following the new food waste regulations.

“The firm has experienced exceptional growth since the opening of its Linlithgowoffice, and I look forward to building on this for many years to come.”

Keenan Recycling managing director, Grant Keenan, added: “Andrew is a highly skilled sales and marketing professional, and his appointment is essential as we continue to build our relationships with businesses across Edinburgh and Glasgow.”

Keenan Recycling launched the commercial food waste collection scheme in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire in 2010, becoming what is believed to be the first company in the North-east offering organisations the opportunity to recycle items such as leftover food, coffee grounds, cups and paper towels.

The firm also deals with tens of thousands of tonnes of food and green waste from local authorities across Scotland.
