Media Release: Judy Murray serves up an ace at Quarriers Ladies’ Lunch

Quarriers Ladies' Lunch 2016 Judy Murray and Rhona McLeod

- Second Quarriers Ladies’ Lunch raises over £14,000 for social care charity –

ONE of Scotland’s largest social care charities, Quarriers, celebrated a £14,000 boost after guests of the charity’s second ever Ladies’ Lunch were at their generous best.

Special guest speaker, Judy Murray, took time out of her busy schedule to attend the event at the stunning Grand Central Hotel in Glasgow – where she was interviewed on-stage by Scottish broadcaster, Rhona McLeod.

Over 260 guests were given an insight into the diverse and varied career of Great Britain’s Fed Cup captain whose experiences made for a compelling afternoon in the luxurious setting of the hotel’s magnificent Grand Ballroom.

As well as learning what it’s like to be one of tennis’ most famous parents and a star of Strictly Come Dancing, guests also enjoyed a sparkling champagne reception, delicious meal, goody bags and the chance to explore the exclusive stalls at the event.

To top-off the fine dining and speakers, further entertainment was supplied by the fantastic ‘Paolo Martini’ tribute act who filled the dancefloor with renditions of Paisley-born Paolo Nutini’s best hits.

Reflecting on the event, Judy Murray said: “I was delighted to come along to support Quarriers. My two sons have grown into successful young men, and one is now a dad. I understand how hard it can be to raise a family when the odds are stacked against you. I’ve been lucky and still have the support of my parents, friends and family, so I’m happy to show my support for this Scottish charity who help other women reach their true potential.”

Commenting on the day, Sheila Gillies, Quarriers board of trustees, said: “The Ladies’ Lunch is a brilliant day focusing on women and their success. Quarriers works with inspirational women every day, be it those who are turning their life around after a difficult start, strong mums holding families together, or women with disabilities who want to give strength to issues that are close to their hearts.

“It was another hugely successful event and on behalf of everyone at Quarriers we would like to thank everyone who attended for making this an even better day than last year! We would also like to thank the staff at the Grand Central Hotel who made the day run so smoothly.

“Special thanks must go to Judy for providing an excellent key note feature at the event and of course to Rhona for hosting the Q&A session. Both are inspirational woman so to have them involved on the day was fantastic for all attendees.

“We are taken aback by the generosity of our guests and we would like to thank them for attending and contributing towards such a worthy cause. Quarriers can make a real difference with their support and we look forward to seeing them again at next year’s Quarriers Ladies’ Lunch.”
