Media Release: Photographer launches book celebrating two decades work for The Independent

Allmediascotland

AN unique collection of photographer, Colin McPherson’s images – either commissioned or published by The Independent and Independent on Sunday between 1995 and 2016 – will be published this week.

Entitled ‘An Independent Eye’, the volume contains both colour and monochrome photographs of many of the distinctive locations and events covered by McPherson during more than two decades working for the titles, both at home and abroad.

McPherson began working for The Independent in 1995 – covering news, features and sport in his native Scotland.

After relocating to the north-west of England in 2003, he continued to work for both the daily and Sunday newspapers, regionally and nationally.

He worked on assignment on major news stories such as the 1996 Dunblane primary school killings, successive General Elections, the setting of the Scottish Parliament and the funeral of Margaret Thatcher in London.

His photography also caught the lighter side of life, looking at the daily routine of an order of Cistercian monks, concerts by major artists such as the Rolling Stones, and Hogmanay revellers in Edinburgh wearing ‘Jimmy Wigs’ as well as regular trips to events such as Aintree Grand National meeting.

The book’s publication was timed to coincide with the final printed edition of The Independent, which hit the streets on Saturday 26 March, and featured examples of McPherson’s work in the magazine.
