FROM mid-June to the end of August 2016, SYHA Hostelling Scotland will operate three additional city youth hostels in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Perth over the busy summer tourist season, as part of its strategy to identify new sites to modernise its popular youth destinations to meet guests’ expectations.

Edinburgh Metro, Glasgow Metro and Perth Youth Hostels will provide an additional 374 bed spaces – Edinburgh 199, Glasgow 110, Perth 65 – to the budget traveller visiting Scotland’s top city tourism destinations.

SYHA will again utilise the available city centre student accommodation at Edinburgh University’s halls of residence on the Colgate, The Glasgow School of Art’s Margaret Macdonald House and Perth College’s student residence, a short bus ride from the centre of ‘The Fair City’.

The youth hostels will provide visitors with quality budget accommodation, offering a choice of self-catering apartments as well as single, double and twin rooms, some with en suite facilities; with options to suit single travellers, couples, families and groups.

They will also offer self-catering kitchens, on site laundry facilities and wi-fi access.

Keith Legge, CEO of SYHA Hostelling Scotland, said: “In response to customer demand we are again delighted to be providing extra accommodation in three popular city destinations – Perth, Edinburgh and Glasgow.

“All three youth hostels are perfectly situated for city tourist attractions, outdoor activities, cultural and music festivals and events, shopping, restaurants and bars; as well as for onward travel to our other hostels throughout Scotland.”

The announcement of the opening of the Edinburgh Metro, Glasgow Metro and Perth Youth Hostels for summer 2016 follows on from the completion of a development programme to enhance the facilities of the Portree Youth Hostel on the Isle of Skye.

The next planned development is the construction of a new youth hostel at Glen Nevis later this year.

Summer Youth Hostels opening dates in 2016:

Glasgow Metro – 24 June to 31 August

Edinburgh Metro – 6 July – 29 August

Perth Youth Hostel – 18 June – 27 August
