Media Release: Ben Norris to unleash his inner improvisational demon at Drygate Brewery

PublicRelationsToUse

BEN Norris will unleash the improvisational demon within when he headlines Gilded Balloon Comedy at Drygate on Friday 6 May 2016.

As one of the most polished stand-ups you are likely to see, this cast-iron guaranteed headliner will seamlessly deliver sharply crafted material and killer gags to make his set shine.

Julia Sutherland, the provocative, potty-mouthed Glaswegian comedian with no discernable shame, and Michael Redmond, the charismatic yet deadpan Irish comedian, will join the acerbic Norris on the Drygate Brewery stage.

Ben Norris is a highly-experienced and hugely well-respected stand-up comedian.

With an incredibly relaxed stage persona, a well-stocked arsenal of sharp lines and an innate ability to improvise Ben Norris is one of the most engaging and enjoyable comics on the UK circuit.

Having headlined gigs for more than two decades, he rarely departs a stage without leaving it torn to shreds in his wake.

It is the sharp, biting comments that make Norris’s set stand out, the often harsh impact of the sentiment cushioned by his easy-going, everyman persona.

Norris explores such topics as fatherhood, lad culture and Cockneys, with a genuine sense of angry joy, taking particular delight in some brilliantly-crafted wordplay.

However, the material is even stronger when he turns that razor-edged wit on himself and his family. Some of his best material revolves around him being a father of triplets (the only comedian on the circuit to have fathered triplets) giving him the perfect opportunity to be mock-resentful at the way they have changed – or ruined – his life.

And don’t think his marriage escapes this withering wit, either.

Other interesting facts about Ben Norris are that he is the cousin of actor, Martin Freeman, he has twice been Ed Byrne’s support act on national tours and he has appeared on The Comedy Store, Never Mind The Buzzcocks, They Think It’s All Over and Mock The Week.

Michael Redmond is the charismatic yet wearily detached Irish comedian, most famous for the lightning-hit Father Stone, one of the most memorable and ill-fated creations of C4’s classic comedy, Father Ted.

With his shock of white hair, droopy black moustache and a face that the phrase hangdog expression was invented for, Redmond is a true master of deadpan comedy.

His classic observational material and beguiling everyday surrealism together with his natural gifts of precision timing and outrageously well-crafted and unexpected one-liners will have the Drygate audience in hysterics without him uttering one word.

The Glaswegian comedian, Julia Sutherland, does darkly delicious comedy for grown-ups, always impressing on the live circuit; as well as being a radio presenter and producer.

If provocative, potty-mouthed girls with no discernable shame is your thing, then she won’t disappoint! Julia is known for the brutally honest, deeply personal, and fearless ‘true life’ comedy. She offers up her transparent jellyfish heart, bares her flawed soul and finds the funnies in dark places.

Gilded Balloon Comedy at Drygate brings together the very best craft beer, fearless food for the soul and strong intelligent comedy with a quality blend of up-and-coming comedians and the finest established comics in an intimate comedy club. Pre- and post-show dinner offers (15 per cent off food with valid ticket) must be booked in advance.
