A LEADING North-east accountancy firm has made a key appointment to support the continued growth of the firm’s client portfolio.

SBP Accountants and Business Advisers has appointed Martin Dalgarno as a tax manager at its office on Carden Place in Aberdeen’s city centre.

Joining the firm in 2015 as a tax senior, Mr Dalgarno has more than 20 years’ accountancy experience, having previously worked in various tax and accounting roles in Aberdeen and the Channel Islands.

Mr Dalgarno’s appointment follows SBP’s sustained growth across all of its North-east offices in Aberdeen, Peterhead, Fraserburgh and Banff.

Last year, the accountancy firm tripled its Aberdeen customer base following its merger with Andrew Philip, and works with a number of high-profile North-east based businesses.

In his new role, he will work under SBP’s head of tax, Alan Masson, and will be responsible for a number of key accounts, including clients within the oil and gas sector, which Mr Dalgarno has previous work experience and holds an Offshore Finance qualification.

His key duties are to regularly meet up with new and existing clients to assist them with all of their legal reporting requirements and tax duties, as well as help them plan for the future.

Mr Dalgarno said: “I’ve been with SBP for almost a year now and I have been really impressed at the strengths and diversity of skills that all the SBP staff have.

“The great thing about this job is the variety with no two days the same, as well as the rich diversity of our client backgrounds and professional circumstances.

“It is a continuing privilege to meet both existing and new clients from many different professional backgrounds and get a glimpse into their working and family life.

“We have a deep respect for our clients who have worked hard to achieve their success in both life and their careers and so it is important that they trust our advice and continue to work closely with us whatever their circumstance, so that we can help them plan for the future.”

SBP’s head of tax, Alan Masson, added: “We welcomed Martin to our tax team last year, and since day one he has done a tremendous job at helping our clients with any tax requirement they may have.

“Our approach is very unique to each individual customer and so it is important we take a diligent approach to each client situation and communicate any complex issues to them in a relatable and understandable way.

“I believe Martin has done a great job in doing just this and will continue to excel in his role at SBP.”

SBP offers a variety of business and accountancy services, including personal and business taxation, as well as a dedicated business services department to cover everything including bookkeeping, VAT and payroll requirements.
