Jonathan Beck CA appointed charity’s new chief financial officer

With over 20 years’ broad ranging international experience, Beck will help implement ambitious strategy to increase charity’s spending on cancer research

LEADING Scottish cancer research charity, Worldwide Cancer Research, has announced the appointment of Jonathan Beck as chief financial officer.

A chartered accountant with over two decades of international experience in financial services and early-stage company investing, Beck has been a financial leader within a variety of organisations, including Ernst & Young, ACE and Ariel Re, as well as serving as a non-executive director for a number of companies.

Beck qualified as a chartered accountant in 1994 with Robb Ferguson in Glasgow and has served as trustee for several charitable organisations, including the Bermuda Foundation for Insurance Studies and Crieff Community Trust.

In his new role, Beck will oversee the charity’s finance, operations and governance to help implement its ambitious five-year strategy to significantly increase grant funding for scientists in the world’s top cancer research institutions.

Mr. Beck commented: “I’m delighted to join Worldwide Cancer Research at this pivotal time. With my multinational background and interest in early-stage companies, a Scottish charity with a truly global scope in pioneering cancer research fits perfectly.

“Like too many others, my family has been affected directly by cancer and I hope to play a small part in helping others avoid the same experience. Through delivery of our five-year strategy, we will put more funding in the hands of cancer researchers around the world.”

Notes to editor:

• Worldwide Cancer Research is recognised as the only UK-based charity that funds early-stage research into any cancer type in any top research institutions around the world. In its 35-year history, it has awarded nearly £200 million in research grants in 22 countries globally.

• Findings from Worldwide Cancer Research grant holders have aided advances in diagnosis and treatment across a wide range of cancer types. More recently, the charity’s research has resulted in several patented chemical compounds that will hopefully become cancer drugs of the future.
