TODAY marks the official launch of ‘iSandBOX’ – an ‘interactive sandbox’ for children.
Believed to be a first of its kind in the UK, the revolutionary unit combines a traditional sandbox with the latest technology to create a new experience for children, which will help them learn in a fun environment that stimulates creativity and imagination.
The unit uses augmented reality to bring sand – in a static sandbox – to life, using sensors to project different colours and moving images onto the sand.
iSandBOX is targeted at three-seven year-olds and each unit comes with 12 games that enable children to explore different surroundings, learn about the ages, volcanos and numbers, draw pictures and make sculptures. It aims to create a magical experience for children to treasure forever.
Begins a spokesperson: “iSandBOX was first designed in Russia and has rolled out across other European countries, such as France and Switzerland.
“Following rigorous software development and programming over the last year, the unit is now fully licensed and available to schools, nurseries and educational centres throughout the UK. The company behind iSandBOX in the UK is based in Aberdeen and works throughout the country.”
Behind the launch of iSandBOX is marketing executive for the company, Sally Mackinnon.
She comments: “iSandBOX is an amazing piece of equipment and what it does for children, in terms of stimulating their imagination and developing co-ordination and cognitive skills, is fantastic.
“It has taken a long time to get iSandBOX ready for the UK, but it has been worth the wait. We’re really excited about our official launch.
“The first iSandBOX unit was installed for demonstrations in Aberdeen a few weeks ago and it’s already creating quite a stir. We’re now out and about speaking to schools, nurseries and educational centres about the benefits that iSandBOX can bring to children and we’re looking forward to seeing the unit in action.”
iSandBOX is now available to hire or buy in the UK and is currently on display at Elevator Business Centre, Bridge of Don, Aberdeen; demonstrations are available by appointment.
Later in the year, iSandBOX plans to go on tour with demonstrations being held throughout the UK.
