A GROUP of learners from an Aberdeen-basedapprenticeship-training company are looking for placements with local employers as part of a specially-tailored engineering course.

ITCA Training, which is based at the Kirkhill Industrial Estate, Dyce, created the Skills for Engineers course (S4E) to provide in-depth training for youngsters in a diverse engineering sector.

The specialist training company, currently has five learners who need to carry out a four-week workplacements within organisations in order to complete their training.

The course, which lasts for 20 weeks, is designed to cover a mixture of classroom based studies andpractical work covering a wide range of aspects of engineering – including hand fitting and assembly skills, servicing skills, pipe fitting work suitable for use in plumbing or gas fitting work, basic hydraulics and pneumatics and health and safety training, with an  unit on MIG welding.

Once completed, the S4E training initiative offers learners the opportunity to gain employment or move on to  an apprenticeship programme.

June Jones, managing director of ITCA, said: “ITCA’s team of skilled professionals devised the new course to focus on diverse engineering skills to meet the demands of the current market, allowing learners to hopefully gain experience at a wider range of companies, not purely those in the oil and gas sector.

“Following their 16 weeks of training at ITCA, the group of learners are already equipped with a range of valuable practical and health and safety skills that they can utilise in the workplace immediately.

“There is no cost for the placements – all we require is the four weeks opportunity in order to help the learners complete their course.

ITCA is looking for the placements to start on Monday 30 May.
