Media Release: Family fun and football for epilepsy

????????????????????????????????????

NEWMAINS United Community Football Club are welcoming families to come along and enjoy their tenth anniversary Invitational tournament.

Children will be kept entertained with bouncy castles, pony rides and other games throughout the two-day event on 16 and 17 July.

Profits from these family fun activities will be donated to Epilepsy Scotland.

Club chair, Bill Carrigan, decided to expand the summer tournament following the sudden death of goalkeeper coach, David Lyon’s son, Kieran, in March 2016.

Kieran Lyon died from SUDEP (sudden and unexpected death in epilepsy) at his home in Ayrshire, aged only 19.

A collection taken at his funeral raised £300 for Epilepsy Scotland but family and friends have pledged to raise more money and awareness of the condition.

Up to 100 epilepsy-related deaths occur in Scotland each year and over half of these are estimated to be linked to SUDEP.

Teams playing in the tournament include Newmains United AFC and JFC, Wishaw Juniors, Carluke Rovers, Cambusnethan Talbot and Queen of the South.

Newmains United Community Football club have pledged to support Epilepsy Scotland in various ways throughout the upcoming season.
