Media Release: Join us for Magfest, issue #05 – fight for your audience

Magfest International Magazine Festival

MAGFEST is the Edinburgh international magazine festival, celebrating the passion and creativity of magazine publishing.

With more than 350 magazine publishers expected to attend in 2016, Magfest is set to be the biggest and best magazine event in Scotland – and we can’t wait to show you what’s happening this year!

Inspiration

Magfest brings together some of the most inspiring minds in media and magazine publishing, with talks, breakouts and workshops designed to show you their passion. Speakers set to inspire you this year include:

Vanessa Kingori, publisher at GQ. Vanessa is the first female head of this male focused brand in more than 25 years, the first and only black publisher in Conde Nast UK’s 100-year history, as well as the youngest serving publisher in the company.

Ernst-Jan Pfauth, founder of De Correspondent. De Correspondent is a Dutch online journalism platform launched in 2013, which raised $1.7 million with a world record crowd-funding campaign.

Astrid Stavro, partner and creative director at Atlas. Atlas is a Mallorca-based design consultancy with 40 years of international experience, recognised with over 200 creative awards. Astrid is currently the design director and contributing editor of Elephant magazine.

Wonderful magazines

Magfest includes a pop-up shop, courtesy of the brilliance of MagCulture.

Titles last year included The Ride Journal, The Gentlewoman, Delayed Gratification (who are running a workshop for us this year), Cereal, Riposte, Another Escape, Fiera, Wrap, Perdiz, Noble Rot, The Gourmand, Anorak, Rapha Mondial, Hot Rum Cow, Intern and MacGuffin.

If you’re looking for inspiration for your own designs or magazine then peruse the shelves and don’t forget your credit card!

Magfest ‘Question Time’

People travel from far and wide for Magfest, so, this year, we’ve created an evening event the night before, offering another magaziney reason to come to Edinburgh.

Held in the ballroom at Edinburgh’s Voodoo Rooms, our Magfest ‘Question Time’ will be a panel discussion made up of a mixture of Magfest speakers, ready to take your questions on your magazine problems, offer their views on your magazine ideas, and discuss the state of the magazine nation.

This is the pre-party for Magfest, so, if you’re coming to Magfest, this is a great chance to make new friends in advance of the day and hear more from our fantastic line-up of speakers!

Connect with freelancers

Our Magfest ‘shop window’ is a showcase of 12 freelancers’ work in a market-place style. This is a brilliant opportunity to meet with illustrators, photographers, writers and designers – see examples of their work, chat to them about their magazine work, their specialisations and style, and what they hope to achieve in future.

On your doorstep

We love working in Scotland and singing the praises of the Scottish magazine industry.

This year, Magfest is held at Central Hall in Edinburgh and offers a calibre of speaker to rival any international conference – as well as talks from four fantastic new Scottish publishers!

SO, JOIN US FOR MAGFEST ON 16 SEPTEMBER!

Book online at www.magfest.co.uk and take advantage of early-bird rates from £38 until 1 July – see you there!
