Best Classical Album of the Year nomination for RSNO recording of works of American composer, Samuel Adler

THE Royal Scottish National Orchestra (RSNO) has received a Latin Grammy® Award nomination, announced yesterday (Wednesday 21 September), for its recent recording of the orchestral works of Germany-born American composer, Samuel Adler.

Conducted by the multiple award-winning Uruguayan maestro, José Serebrier, this is the Scottish Orchestra’s second nomination for the Latin Grammy® Awards, the first being in 2005 for its recording of Alexander Glazunov’s Symphony No5 and The Seasons, also conducted by Serebrier.

The orchestra has received eight Grammy® Award nominations since 2006. José Serebrier won a Latin Grammy® Award in 2004 in the same category for the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra’s recording of orchestral interludes from Bizet’s opera Carmen, orchestrated by Serebrier.

José Serebrier Conducts Samuel Alder was the final recording – and indeed performance – to be made by the RSNO at the orchestra’s former home, the Henry Wood Hall, Glasgow.

The record was produced by Philip Hobbs and Robert Cammidge and released on the Scottish label, Linn Records. It features première recordings of the composer’s three-movement Symphony No6 as well as his Concerto for Cello and Orchestra, with Maximilian Hornung as soloist.

Said Dr Krishna Thiagarajan, chief executive of the RSNO: “I would like to thank the musicians and José for producing such a glowing tribute to Samuel Adler.

“To be recognised with this nomination is a great honour and highlights the mission of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra to give a voice to composers through recordings, broadcasts and live performances. We wish all nominees well!”

The 17th Annual Latin GRAMMY® Awards will take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Thursday 17 November, 2016.
