A LEADING North-east surface preparation and protective coatings company has been given the green light to develop its facilities in Peterhead.

Davidsons Blast Services (DBS), a family-run business which provides blast cleaning and application of protective coatings to the oil and gas, marine and subsea industries, has secured planning permission to develop further office space at its one acre site on Dales Industrial Estate in Peterhead.

The blasting and painting facility, which was purpose built and opened in 2010 by the Davidson family, includes an unrivalled coatings workshop and blasting hall large enough to accommodate any structure transportable by road.

The planning permission granted by Aberdeenshire Council has given the firm the go-ahead for additional office space, which is set to be complete by February 2017.

The six-figure development will make room for in house training, conferencing facilities and potential employment growth in its quality control and business development functions.

Bruce Davidson, managing director of DBS, said: “Since opening our blast cleaning and coatings facility in 2010, we have concentrated our investment in our workshop areas ensuring operations run at maximum efficiency.

“Investment in these areas have been implemented strategically and are key to ensuring DBS’s continued success offering a first-class service, delivered on time and within the customer’s budget.

“Although it is currently a challenging climate for our industry, we believe this upgrade is necessary for the growth and further development of our services, as well as enhancing the skills we already have through running in-house training.

“Of course, being a family-owned business, we couldn’t think of a better way in marking the occasion than asking our Grandfather, who originally founded Davidson’s as a company in 1976, to break ground for the development.”
