MORAY councillors today approved a strategic framework for the development of a 30-hectare business park to the east of Elgin.

The framework will be used as a material consideration in determining future planning applications for the site at Barmuckity.

It provides for a range of land uses including business, industrial, retail, leisure and housing.

A report to Moray Council’s planning and regulatory services committee stated: “The purpose is to provide a framework in both land use and landscape terms to set the context within which all future proposals and planning applications will sit.

“The balance of uses within the framework aims to promote delivery by ensuring the project is economically viable.

“The mix of uses includes some higher value uses such as housing to support the delivery of business and industrial uses.

“The inclusion of housing and identifying the potential for leisure and retail uses that are ancillary to the main use is a key difference from the designation within the 2015 Moray Local Development Plan which is for employment uses only.”

The layout will also include a wetland water feature within a parkland setting.

Moray Council area stretches from Tomintoul in the south to the shores of the Moray Firth, from Keith in the east to Forres in the west. The council and its 4,500 employees respond to the needs of 95,510 residents in this beautiful part of Scotland, which nestles between Aberdeenshire and the Highlands.

Famous for its colony of dolphins, fabulous beaches and more malt whisky distilleries than any where else in Scotland, Moray is a thriving area and a great place to live.

Headquartered in Elgin, the administrative capital of Moray.
