RSNO Junior Chorus’ new festive album features new work from Christmas No1 composer

SOME of the country’s finest young voices have produced a new recording to coincide with the arrival of the festive season.

The Royal Scottish National Orchestra’s (RSNO) award-winning Junior Chorus, accompanied by the RSNO and led by Junior Chorus director, Christopher Bell, release A Christmas Festival, featuring the music from their popular Christmas concerts. The recording is supported by The Iain and Pamela Sinclair Legacy.

A Christmas Festival is the second seasonal release from the RSNO Junior Chorus. In 2009, the ensemble released A Family Christmas on Signum Classics, also accompanied by the RSNO and led by Christopher Bell.

A Christmas Festival finds traditional favourites such as Jingle Bells, In A Cottage In A Wood and Jolly Old Saint Nicholas accompanied by 20th century classics from British composers, Michael Head (Little Road to Bethlehem) and Howard Blake (The Snowman, The Bear) and a new work, I Pray, from Paul Mealor, who is well-known for achieving a UK Christmas No1 with his work for The Military Wives’ Choir in 2011.

The RSNO Christmas concerts are one of the most popular orchestral and choral concerts in the country, and the spirit of the annual event is captured on this double-length recording.

Director of the RSNO Junior Chorus, Christopher Bell, said: “The RSNO Christmas concerts have been making family audiences smile for more than 20 years. This new recording captures the seasonal charm of children’s voices accompanied by a full symphony orchestra. The energy and enthusiasm of the performers is infectious – let us bring a smile to your face and a warm glow to your heart.”

With several formats to choose from, including Studio Master 24bit FLAC, A Christmas Festival is available to download now from www.linnrecords.com.

CDs will be available to buy online and at RSNO concerts from Friday 9 December.

The RSNO Junior Chorus – which is supported by Big Lottery Fund: Youth Start, W A Cargill Fund, The Cross Trust and The Mickel Fund – will be performing as part of the RSNO Christmas Concerts, alongside the RSNO at the Caird Hall, Dundee on Friday 16 December and with the RSNO and the RSNO Chorus at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall on Saturday 17 December.

The programmes feature many of the works recorded for A Christmas Festival.
