The Scottish Podcast Scholarship offers funding and equipment to help students broadcast online

THE Scottish Podcast Scholarship has just launched its second edition, this time offering assistance to students throughout Scotland.

The aim of the scholarship is to offer anyone in education the opportunity to start their own podcast series, with financial, mentoring and equipment assistance to give it the best possible start.

The scholarship is offered by Dundee-based media company, The Podcast Host ltd, and the intention is to motivate more enthusiastic young people to find their voice.

Podcasting can reach an international audience, entertaining, educating or inspiring listeners, but there are many barriers to launching a show, and even more to maintaining it.

The scholarship aims to break down these barriers and to support an increasing amount of unique and inspiring content.

The winner will receive:

  • £400 to help fund their show
  • A Pro-level audio recording setup
  • One year’s free media hosting with Spreaker
  • Full access to The Podcast Host’s Podcasting set of courses
  • Mentorship and guidance on planning and launching your series

The support offered will help students to develop their pitch from the idea stage, right through to publication on iTunes and elsewhere.

The competition is now in its second year.

Last year, it was open to students in the Fife and Tayside area, and was won by Stuart Russell who went on to launch his show, Earth – A Youth Perspective.

Anyone interested in pitching their idea should do so on the Scottish Podcast Scholarship Entry Form, before the deadline of Tuesday 31st January at 11:59pm.
