Media Release: Tropical climates come to Edinburgh this February

Finn Chomczuk explores the rainforest at Dynamic Earth

FIVE-star visitor attraction, Dynamic Earth, is set to turn up the heat this February, as it transports visitors from the grey UK to the tropical climates of the rainforest, with a week of Rainforest Explorer Days.

Throughout February half- term (11 – 19 February), youngsters are invited to become the ultimate Rainforest Explorers.

By adventuring through Dynamic Earth’s galleries, they will discover the amazing array of wildlife which inhabits the world’s rainforests and learn how they survive in their changing environment.

As they make their way through the attraction, explorers will be put to the test to see if they have what it takes to survive in their tropical surroundings. The brave will be set a range of challenges, including trying to outrun a crocodile on ‘Croco-mile’, and will be rewarded with a Dynamic Earth Rainforest Certificate.

On Wednesday 15 February, the attraction will also be hosting a ‘Meet the Rainforests Experts’ day.

Rainforest extraordinaire, Dr Murray Collins, will be available with a team of experts from the University of Edinburgh’s School of Geosciences to educate and encourage novices and budding scientists.

This team of experts work to create a more sustainable planet in tropical forests and beyond, and will be on hand with drone footage and incredible satellite data to illustrate how deforestation is impacting on plants and animals.

Marketing manager, Eilidh Massie, comments: “We’re really looking forward to February half term this year.

“The Rainforest Explorer days have the perfect mix of fun tasks, education and a competitive angle – perfect for all the family, and we’re sure the adults will enjoy it as much as the kids. We’re especially excited to be welcoming Dr Murray Collins to Dynamic Earth to demonstrate the vital work he and his team are doing to save our rainforests.

“We’re hoping to inspire our visitors through science, hands-on activities and entertainment – just be careful not to get caught in our tropical thunderstorm!”

On top of the rainforest activities, regular Dynamic Earth features include Scotland’s only permanent 4D cinema, a real iceberg, a bone-shaking earthquake and the Deep Time Machine which takes visitors billions of years back in time.

The half-term activities will run from 11 February until 19 February, and are free with admission to Dynamic Earth.
